A MAORI OFFICER SERVICES IN LIBYA Advice that their son, Captain William Porter, of the Maori Battalion, has awarded the Military Cross, has been received by the Rev. and Mrs. K. Poata, of Pupuke, North Auckland. Captain Porter, who is 24, was born at Kawakawa and attended St. Stephen's and Te Aute Colleges, representing each at Rugby. Later he played for the Whangaroa County. Captain Porter volunteered for the Maori Battalion early in the war and received a commission before going overseas with the Second Echelon. He served in Greece and Crete and then in the recent campaign in Libya, where he was awarded his decoration.
