JEHOVAH WITNESS CASE (0.c.) HAMILTON, Friday An admission was made bv Leslie Raymond Franks, aged 32, before Mr. W. H. Freeman, S.M., at Hamilton to-day, that he had failed to report for military service. Senior-Sergeant McHugh said defendant was a clerk who had been with the Post and Telegraph Department for 16 years. Ho was a Jehovah Witness. Defendant said his appeal had been dismissed. He had been ordained as a minister. He was not a pacifist and did not desire to obstruct the war effort. Franks was sentenced to six weeks' imprisonment, and was ordered to be detained in a defaulters' camp.
