HOME GUARD

Sir, —The question of Home Guard strength is being discussed man/ months too late, but recent transfers to Territorials, the transferring of Post and Telegraph and railway workers to the E.P.S., coupled with a continuous lack of Government support, is chiefly responsible. I think it is logical to assume that if we had 200,000 armed Home Guardsmen in this Dominion the enemy woal<j think twice about a landing on our shores. As the age limit for the defeat forces is 45 years why not transfer all reasonably fit men up to this age to the Home Guard (subject to certain exceptions for specially-skilled E.P.B. workers), men over 45 being embodied 3 in the E.P.S. organisation unless they prefer to stay in the guard? This is no time for rivalry between various organisations, action and co- 7 operation is urgent, but what the Dominion needs more than anything else at present is inspiring leadership. C.C.
