FORMER AIR CHIEF
PROMOTION IN ENGLAND LONDON, Feb. 18 The former Chief of the Air Staff in New Zealand, Air Commodore H. W. L. Saunders, has* been promoted to the rank of acting-Air-Vice Marshal.
Air Vice-Marshal Saunders to New Zealand from England in February 1939. as Chief of the Air Staff, and remained until a few months ago, when he returned to England. His service with the Royal Flying Corps and Roval Air Force began at the end of 1917". Before then he had been a private in the Witwatersrand Rifles, a sapper in the South African Engineering Corps, and later still a member of the South African Horse. Since the last war he has boon stationed in Egypt and Irak, and has also taken several staff courses. From 1932 to 1935 he was in command of the No. 45 (B) Squadron of the Middle East m Egypt.
