SMART JUVENILES

ENGAGED ON SATURDAY CANDIDATES FOR TE RAPA

BY ABAYDOS

An interesting race at the Waikato Racing Club's Summer Meeting at Te Rapa on Saturday will be the Juvenile Stakes, which has attracted a fine field. Bonny Pay, winner of the Avondale Stakes, Welcome Stakes and Great Northern Foal Stakes, heads the list with 9.12. He' is a stout-hearted youngster, capable of making a forward showing, in spite of the solid impost. winning the Ruakura Stakes at Te Rapa, and the Nursery Handicap at Ellerslie, in which he defeated Nizam. Kentish was twice second, being beaten at his last start by the stable mate. Representative, one of the best of his age. Since winning the Hastings Stakes in October, Travencore has only hud one race, being unplaced in the Sylvia Handicap at Ellerslie on January 2, the placo getters being Orakau, Kentish and Transcend. Travencore is working vory attractively and has a. good chaiice to make amends. Pox Brae, by Foxbridge from Lady Bede, attracted a good deal of attention when he finished second to Sleepy Fox in the Tamahere Stakes at Te Rapa in November. He has not raced since, but i 3 likely to be in good order. After some useful placed performances,. Sea Mist scored decisively in the second division of the Putaruru Stakes at Matamata, and there is little doubt that the Croupier filly will be very fit for her engagement. Sir Simon revealed promise when he ran second to Representative in the Mid-Summer Handicap at Ellerslie on New Year's Day. and some improvement can be expected. Kaitere Maati.' third at his last start, is galloping vory well on the track, and his turn may not be long delayed. Transcend is a smart colt, who, being a good beginner, should be suited by the distance. Tudor Rose raced prominently in the spring, and at Matamata, gave a glimpse of returning form Merry May, a half-sister by Tidal to River Plate, made a creditable showing for third in the Arawa Park Stakes at Rotorua. Elect is showing dash in his work and is evidently benefiting from racing. The Pied Piper has revealed speed in some of his latest efforts and is on the improve. Ringlight and Marques may be other light-weights to show improvement.
