DESIGNS IN PARK

DISPLAY AT ONEHUNGA The flora 1 designs in the gardens at Jellicoe Park, Onehunga, have taken on a patriotic aspect this year. Each bed is designed to represent a different badge of the New Zealand Forces. The insignia of the New Zealand Army, Navy, Air Force and Nursing Division arie clearly displayed in the floral designs. This effect is obtained by the use of different colourer flowers, the colours chosen being as near as possible to those of the bad<ge represented. Approximately 10,000 plants, natives of several countries, including South America and Mexico, were used for each bed. Another remarkable' feature is a design of the words "Remember our boys are fighting for V." With the blockhouse, a relic of the Maori War, in the foreground of the park, and the generally historical background of the site, the patriotic nature of the garden designs is appropriate. The work was designed by the park superintendent, Mr. J. Legg, who was also responsible for the laying out of the grounds, which include some of the finest examples of scenic gardening in Australia or New Zealand. The floral electric clock, which is a prominent feature of the park, has been planted in a new design this year.
