Strawberry Beds
AT this season the old strawberry plants make new roots, especially just below the crowns. It will be noticed that two and three year old plants h we formed a kind of neck or leafless stem, two inches or so in length, between the soil and the growing crowns. If a little good garden soil is worked among these stems and brought up to the leaves, new roots will soon take possession with beneficial results. Also give a mulching of manure between tlie rows, failing which a few barrowloads from the compost heap will be an excellent substitute. This additional rooting medium will increase the vigour of the plants, the leaves will be larger and stronger in texture and the final result will be stout crowns full of flower for next season.
