RED BIRCH TIMBER
Erected 75 years ago in Lawrence, Otago, a wooden building now iti process of demolition, provides evidence-of the durability or one class of e n ' Zealand timber, The framework of the building was constructed of red, white and black pine, while the weather boards consisted entirely of red birch. The framework had suffered badly from the ravages of borer, but the red birch timber remained entirely untouched, and was in an excellent state of preservation.
