EMERGENCY SYSTEM CONTROLLERS APPOINTED MR. L. J. SCHMITT AT HEAD [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Saturday The appointment of Mr. L. JSchmitt, Secretary of Supply, as Dominion Controller of Supplies, was announced by the Minister of National Service, the Hon. R. Semple. He will be assisted by the deputy-Dominion controller, Mr. J. 10. Thomas, Food Controller, and the following regional controllers of supplies:— Auckland and Auckland Provincial District. —Mr. A. H. Honeyfield, manager of the Internal Marketing Department, Auckland. Wellington. Taranaki. Hawke's Bay, Nelson and Marlborough Provincial Districts. —Mr. F. A. Bridges, accountant at the Food Controller's office. Wellington. Christcliurch and Canterbury Provincial Districts. —Mr. R. Macpherson, Wheat and Flour Controller, Christchurch. Dunedin, Otago and Southland Provincial Districts. —Mr. H. F. Larsen, district officer of the Industries and Commerce Department, Dunedin.

Mr. Semple said the Dominion Controller, in the event ot enemy attack or other disaster creating a state ot emergency in New Zealand, would assume full control of bulk supplies ol essential commodities and would be responsible for their distribution in the best interests of the affected district and the country as a whole. Regional controllers would work under the direction of the deputy-Dominion controller, and their chief function would be to assist the supply committees of the various Kmergenc-v Precautions Services within their districts in the direction of requisitioning bulk supplies of any controlled essential commodities. The R.P.S. supply committees would themselves be empowered to requisition retail supplies. Other Dominion controllers to be appointed to assist in the national emergency precautions scheme are:— l Communications- Mr. J Young.
