FIRE IN WELLINGTON
SPOTTER GIVES THE ALARM [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION'] WELLIXGTON, Saturday A fire spotter who was spending his first night 011 duty was responsible for giving the alarm when an outbreak of fire occurred on the premises of Leopold and Company (Alco, Limited), wholesale leather goods manufacturers and importers, occupying the top floor ot a five-storey building in Lambton Quay, shortly before midnight. Five engines and a salvage van attended and an extension ladder was used to take a hose to the top of the building. The adjoining premises of Ma rio Dean. photographic studio, Garland's restaurant, and Kodak, Limited, received slight damage through water. Leopold and Company'# premises were damaged, although the entire floor was not seriously affected.
