"OLD BILL" IS DEAD

LONDON, Dec. 20 The original of Bairnsfather's "Old Bill," a Chelsea Pensioner named Merrigan, has died. This was revealed by Major-General Sir Harry Knox, Governor of Chelsea Hospital, speaking at Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk. "Old Bill was still the same as in Bairnsfather's pictures," he said. "He had the same big moustache and the same burly figure. I saw him just before he died, and he cracked jokes with me."
