BATHER DROWNED
YOUNG WOMAN DISAPPEARS FATALITY AT HAMILTON (0.c.) HAMILTON, Tuesday Apparently developing cramp while swimming in the Waikato River this afternoon, Miss Patricia Veronica Jew, aged 22 years, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Jew, of Manning Street, Hamilton, disappeared and was drowned. Miss Jew, with several friends, was bathing in the river by the Hamilton pumping station. Shortly before four o'clock, when she was in the water alone, she called for help and then sank. Her friends at once swam to the spot, but they could not locate her. Police dragged the river until nightfall without finding the body.
