ANNUAL REGATTA
STRONG SUPPORT ACCORDED The endeavour of the Auckland Anniversary Regatta Committee to have the holiday celebrating the 92nd anniversary of the founding of the city transferred from Thursday, January 29, to Saturday, January 31, was unsuccessful. The reply received from the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. "Webb, was that, owing to the difficulty of arranging the various industrial awards, he regretted that it would be impossible to accede to the request, with which he was in sympathy. The chairman of the Regatta Committee, Mr. G. P. Robertson, stated last evening that it was meeting with strong support from all quarters, and gratification had been expressed that the committee was carrying on, although \z would not be ah all-day function. He said that the entries were very good under the conditions, and that the prize-money allocated. GlO7 7s Od. was comparable with past regattas. The sailing committee reported that it had divided the Z class into two sections owing to the 'arge number of entries (39). It was agreed to allot the Savoury Cup to the Pupuke division. The report also stated that the committee had endeavoured to meet the wishes of the competitors in regard to the times of storting the races during the afternoon.
