ARMY AND NAVY DEATHS AND MISSING OFFICERS AND OTHER RANKS Private Owen Richard Gatinan, who is reported to have died of wounds, was the third son of the Rev. \Y. Gatinan and .Mrs. Gatnian, ol St. .John's .Methodist Church, Hamilton East. Private Gatnian, who was 26 years of age, was educated at the Otahnhu High School. He left with the First Echelon and served in Greece and Crete. An outstanding athlete and the holder of a cross-country championship, lie was also a prominent worker in the Methodist Church. Second-Lieutenant H. S. Dupin, who has been posted as missing, is a son of Mr. J. H. Dupin, of Auckland. He was educated at King's College, where he played in the first eleven in J931 and 19.12. He was a member of the Akarana Golf Club and the Blctchley Golf Club, Surrey, England. He left NewZealand in 1933 for London and on the outbreak of war joined the New Zealand Anti-Tank Regiment, which was formed in England. Mr. Dupin went to Egypt as a lance-bombardier and later became a sergeant. At the time of the Greek campaign he was in the Officer Cadets Training Unit and on gaining his commission was posted to the New Zealand Artillery. Second-Lieutenant C. C. Pipson, who has been posted as missing, was.a member of the Permanent Force and was stationed at Narrow Neck before the outbreak of war. He is 29 years of age and was educated at the Rotorua High School. A keen Rugby footballer, he played senior grade for North Shore. His wife, Mrs. N. P. Pipson, lives at Devon port. Gunner William Council Molyneux, who lias been posted as missing, is the only son of Mrs. H. A. Molyneux, of 10 Hemi Street, Devonport. He is a son ot the late Captain \Y. Molyneux, of Fast Boldon. County Durham, England, who was reported missing in 1918, Gunner Molyneux. who is 23 years ol age, was educated at Takapuna Grammar School. He left Xew Zealand with the Second Fchelon and served in England. Egypt, Greece and Crete. Bombardier Michael G. Xiven, reported missing, came to New Zealand from England as a youth and was educated at New Plymouth Boys' High School and Lincoln Agricultural College. Alter spending some years working in the Dominion he returned to England and on the outbreak of war joined the New Zealand anti-tank battery. which later joined the Expeditionary Force in the Middle Fast:. Lance-Bombardier John D. Bull, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. L. Hull, of Sadgrove Terrace. Mount Albert, who was previously posted as missing, is now reported to be safe and well. His wife lives at Stanley Bay. WELL-KNOWN ATHLETE AMATEUR BONING CHAMPION (0.C.) GISBORNE, Tuesday The well-known New Zealand athlete, Engineroom Artificer Darc-y Heeney. who has been reported missing, is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Heeney, of Gisborne. He is widely known as an amateur boxer, having won the New Zealand welter-weight championship in three consecutive years, as a footballer of provincial representative standard, and as an all-round field athlete and swimmer. Engineroom Artificer Heeney entered the Royal Navy last year, and lias since seen service in the destroyer, aircraft carrier and cruiser branches. VOLUNTEER RESERVE MEN EARLY ENTRY INTO SERVICE Able-Seaman Jack Gordon True, R.N.Y.R., reported missing, is a son of .Mr. and Mrs. Arthur True, of 38 The Parade, St. Heliers Bay. Educated at Auckland Grammar School, he was a keen Rugby player, and was captain of the school's third and fourth grade teams for three years. He was a member of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve before the war, and early in 1940 he left New Zealand with the first naval detachment after war was declared. Able-Seaman Edwin Peter Alder, who is posted as missing, is a son of Mr. M. G. Alder, of 35 London Street, Ponsonby. Seaman Aider, who is 21, enlisted in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and left New Zealand for overseas in May, 1910. He was educated at the Auckland Grammar School, and is the youngest of three brothers serving in the Navy. The other two have had fairly long service, having joined several yeans before the outbreak of war. Shipwright William Bennett Wangford, who is posted as missing, is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Wangford, of 86 Turangi Road, Western Springs. A member of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, he served on the New Zealand station before going overseas early this year. He was educated at the Seddon Memorial Technical College, and was a keen yachtsman.
