STOCK EXCHANGES CLOSE AUSTRALIAN ISSUES WEAKER There was a last-minute accession of business on the Auckland Stock Exchange prior to the year's close of trading yesterday. Australian stocks reflected the further weakness in the Commonwealth markets, and Colonial Sugars touched a new low level for recent years at £46 10s, a fall of £4 5s since December 5 and of £9 17s 6d from tlie year's peak level touched on March 21 and September 5. There was a loss of 10s 6d in Electrolytic Zinc preference since the last business on September 16. Dominion stocks closed steadier, the only loss affecting National Banks, which changed hands for the first time since war broke out in the Pacific. The markets will be closed until January 12.
