CRICKET SEASON

CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY PARNELL WINS BY ONE RUN EXCITING GAME AGAINST ARMY Success by one run was gained by Parnell in a highly exciting finish to its game against Die Army side at Eden Park on Saturday, when the seventh series of one-day games in the Auckland Cricket Association's senior championship was contested, Army made 202 runs and Parnell had scored the same number when the last batsman went to the crease. The side was dismissed after only one more run had been scored. Wins were also recorded by University against Middlemore, and North Shore against Training College, while the matches between Eden and Graftou and Ponsonby-Balmoral and Y.M.CjA. were drawn.

■ Three players narrowly missed scoring centuries. The Grafton batsman R. H. Cleave was bowlod at 08 when he was going very nicely. D D. Taylor, of Middlemore, who scored the first senior century the previous week, was caught at 90, while B. Sutcliffe, of Parnell. was run out at 90. Other good scores were:—l. W. An army cricket match between teams representing the Waiouru and Trentham camps was drawn with the honours in favour of Waiouru. The latter made 203 and 158 for eight, declared (Gallichan 38, Donnelly 27, Hearsey 20 not out; Andrews four for 52, Wilson four for 47). Trentham scored 173 (Tricklebank (!8, Holden 39; Burgess three for 7, Pritvhard three for (50) and at stumps in its second innings 105 for nine wickets (O'Brien 45; Brooker four for 51, Burgess three for 31).
