MILK DELIVERY
. FRONT GATE PREFERABLE ADVICE OF THE COUNCIL A decision to insert in its "Hints to Housewives" pamphlet a recommendation that the container for milk should be placed in as convenient a position as possible, preferably at the front gate or Front door, was reached by the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council yesterday. The pamphlet is to be distributed to householders through the post. Comments on the "pamphlet were received from several of the parties concerned. Stonex Brothers, Limited, wrote that Ihey were prepared to do their best to have the pamphlet delivered, but they were not aware what attitude would be taken by the Union. They asked that the words "preferably front gate or front door" be inserted after the words "provide a place as convenient for the roundsmen as possible." The Auckland Milk Company, while offering no objection to distributing the pamphlet, considered that it completely ignored the fundamental issue, namely, the desirability of encouraging universal consumption of pasteurised bottled milk. If the council could not or would not adopt a more progressive policy, the pamphlet might assist housewives to minimise complaints. The New Zealand Dairy Vendors' Alliance reported that it had been decided at a large meeting of the trade not to distribute the pamphlets unless front-of-house delivery Vwas recommended. Tho deputy-chairman, Mr. A. S. Bailey, who presided, said tho council had eliminated all contentious matter from the pamphlet, and it was regrettable that they were not getting the co-operation they expected. The circulation of the pamphlet through the press was advocated by Miss E. Melville.
