Bearded Irises
r PHE bearded irises are best planted A or divided and replanted directly they have finished flowering, as #they make fresh roots at this time. The old flower stem should be cut away and any old portions or parts which show signs of disease cut out with a sharp knife. The rhizomes or creeping rootstocks should be planted shallowly but firmly in soil containing lime, preferably in the form of old mortar rubble. They like an open, sunny position and rather dry soil; a raised border suits them admirably, especially on heavy ground.
