NEW VICTORY THEATRE
OPENING DATE FIXED Auckland's latest and most modern picture theatre, the Victory, which is to open on Friday night, incorporates many new features. Situated on the corner of Great South Road and Green Lane Road, the theatre was erected for Amalgamated Theatres, Limited, and has a seating capacity of almost 1000 persons. For the first time in New Zealand and, as far as is known, for the first time in the world, the screen is not supported by a stage but is built out from the wall. A feature of the Victory Theatre is the tastefully furnished lounge upstairs and the luxurious seats provided for patrons. The interior effects have been designed in accordance with the modern trend for restrained tonings and the light walls and ceiling are .flooded with restful light from the indirect neon lighting. For the opening programme of the theatre, the year's .outstanding English production "Major Barbara" has been chosen.
