WILD LIFE CONTROL
MINISTER'S OBJECTIVES [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] INVEHCARGILL, Monday All pests, from rabbits to deer, should be under the control of a national wild life department, which should conduct research, said the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, when he met a deputation from the Southland Acclimatisation Society to-day. The local society along with others should build a fund for the conservation of game for future generations—the fund to be assisted by enlarging the scope of the present 10s local licence by increasing it up to 30s, such licence to include the shooting of all types of mallard and be available in any district. Boundaries created unnecessary friction. The breeding of quail and pheasants, added the Minister, should be attempted again in Southland. The department was considering the acclimatisation in New Zealand of a hardy type of partridge and Argentine and Indian jungle fowl. The Minister was emphatic that any reforms would have to be .introduced on a national basis.
