CUSTOMS REVENUE
INCREASES IN NOVEMBER RETURNS FOR AUCKLAND An increase was shown in all revenue items collected by the Customs Department at Auckland in November compared with the same month last year. The increase in customs revenue was £18.301; in excise on beer, £899; in sales tax. £8891; and in War Expenses Account returns, £15,311. However, customs revenue for 11 months was £271.376 lower than for the same period last year. The other items all show inareases for the year to date as against the first 11 months of last year. Collections last month were as follows, the figures for November, 1940, being given in parentheses:—Customs, £240.926 (£222.625); excise on beer. £30,340 (£29,441); sales tax, £110,292 (£101,401); War Expenses Account, £127,295 (£111.984). For the 11 months ended November 30, in 1941 and 1940 respectively, the totals were:—Customs, £2,534,124 (£2.855.490); excise on beer. £312,007 (£289.012); sales tax, £1,079,264 (£1.043,829); War Expenses Account, £1,240,612 (£560,971).
