Cyclone in Japan. —-Thirteen people were killed and many injured, and 250 houses were demolished in a terrific cyclone at Toyohashi, 150 miles east of Kobe, Japan. The town has a population of 12,000. Aluminium Warship.—The United States Navy Department states that the Bureau of Ships is at present studying the plans of a revolutionary aluminium destroyer, capable of a speed of 52 knots. Late President of Chile.—More than 700,000 persons attended the funeral services for the late President of Chile, Senor Pedro Aguirre Cerda, says a report from Santiago. It was the greatest demonstration of mourning ever seen in Chile. No Shiny Boots. —A British Army order strictly bans the polishing of boots, virtually ending the traditional "spit and polish" era. Boots in future for the most part will be dubbined, which, although giving a dull effect, protects the boots more effectively against gas. Brazilian Defence. —The Rio de Janeiro correspondent of the United Press says the Brazilian War Ministry has announced that army reserve officers serving in the Brazilian military district nearest to Dakar, French West Africa, will not be released from active service when their terms expire. Officials have not explained the reasons. By special arrangement.
