UNLICENSED REVOLVER
BANK MANAGER FINED MAGISTRATE'S COMMENT [Br TELEGRAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION] DUXEDIN. Friday The sequel to a quarrel between a bank manager and a butcher at Lawrence on the evening of November 22 was heard in the Lawrence Magistrate's Court to-day, when Edward Alexander Winchester, bank manager, aged 51, appeared to answer charges of presenting a loaded firearm at James Mervyn Barr, of assault, and of carrying a pistol without a licence. The accused pleaded guilty to the charge of carrying a firearm without a licence, but not guilty to the other charges. After hearing the evidence Mr., H. J. Dixon. S.M., said ho felt accused was carrying the revolver for a sinister purpose. He had power to sentence him to three months' imprisonment or impose a fine up to £IOO. He felt it was right that he should treat it as a serious offence and the accused would be fined £25. He made an order for confiscation of the revolver and ammunition. The charge of presenting a firearm was dismissed and the assault charge was adjourned until January 26.
