THE YEAR'S RAINFALL STRONG WINDS PREVAIL ROUGH SEAS IN HARBOUR Almost four feet of rain has fallen in Auckland this year. Heavy rain yesterday brought the year's total to date to about 47.25 in., or 2.51 in. more than tho average. Strong north-west to westerly winds, reaching gale force between mid-day and five o'clock yesterday afternoon, accompanied the heavy downpour. The unfavourable weather yesterday was marked by a sudden drop in the barometer readings. From 29.86 in. at midnight on Thursday the readings dropped to 29.50 in. at four o'clbck yesterday afternoon before recovering. At midnight last night the barometer was at 29.50 in. There were heavy seas on the Manukau and Waitemata Harbours, and ferry boats had difficulty in berthing at Stanley Bay and other wharves. The rainfall for the 24 hours ended at midnight last night, according to tho Herald gauge, was .31in. FLOODING IN HAMILTON DAMAGE DONE IN SHOPS (O.O.) HAMILTON, Friday Rain commenced to fall in Hamilton following a thunderstorm shortly before 10 o'clock this morning. There were frequent heavy showers in the forenoon and in the afternoon a torrential downpour occurred. Street water tables could not cope with the flow and extensive flooding took place. The water entered several shops in Ward Street and some damage was done.
