GAS COMPANY POSTS

GENERAL MANAGER RETIRING CHOICE OF SUCCESSORS Engineer and general manager of the Auckland Gas Company, Limited, for the past 25 years, Mr. James Lowe, M.lnst.C.E., is to retire, and to be succeeded early next year by Mr. Rupert Worley, borough engineer of Hamilton, as business manager, and by Mr. Lowe's present assistant, Mr. G. H. Collins, as. engineer.

Trained in Scotland, Mr. Lowe was assistant-general manager of the_ Glasgow gas department before coming to New Zealand 34 years ago. He joined the staff of the Auckland Gas Company as engineer and was later also made general manager.

Mr. Worley's resignation was received at a meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council yesterday, when he was granted three months' leave of absence. Tributes were paid to Mr. Worley, who was thanked for his services. It was announced that he would take up his new duties on March 1. Born in Nelson, Mr. Worley holds the degree of A.M.I.C.E. (London). He served in the last war, winning the Military Cross, and joined the Hamilton Borough engineering staff 21 years ago. He will be succeeded tyy Mr. J. Baird, assistant-borough engineer of Hamilton.
