Phillips, Ihe chairman, said that within the Inst year there had been two Increases in duty on beer one of Od in November, 1940, and one'of 3d in the late Budget. Tins brought the total duty to 3s u gallon. 12 times what it was in December, 1914- Thus, on every pint of beer consumed over the bar counter the Government collected 4Hd in excise. Mr, Phillips said that the ratio of expenses had increased during the year, but in spite ,of trade disabilities the company's turnover &had been well maintained.
