HOME DEFENCES
NEW ZEALAND READY SIR GUY WILLIAMS* TRIBUTE FROM TOM MOORE SOMEWHERE IN CANADA, Not. 10 One simple, direct statement, uttered by a man who speaks with authority, has assured the United States and Canada that New Zealand stands firm as a stronghold of democracy in the Pacific. Sir Guy Williams, sent by Britain to help organise home defences in New Zealand five months ago, made the statement in Los Angeles. "New Zealand is ready to ftand off any attacking force," he said. "Her morale is splendid." Sir Guy's mission as military adviser to the New Zealand Government completed. he arrived in North America by the same United .States passenger liner that brought the most recently arrived contingent of Anzac airmen to the Commonwealth, air training schools in Canada. Incidentally, the Anzac airmen travelled in very good company. In addition to members of the British military mission, they had as shipmates Richard Brunot, Free French Governor of the Pacific, who was assigned by the Be Gaulle Government to overcome African and Tahitian pro-Vichy uprisings, and his staff.
