WELCOME TO CONSUL
ENGLISH-SPEAKING UNION There was a crowded attendance of members and friends at the monthly At Home given by the Auckland branch of the English-Speaking Union in the Catholic Women's League rooms last night. The guests of honour were Mr. Hiram Boucher, the new United States Consul at Auckland, and Mrs. Boucher, and members of the Consular Corps ot Auckland and their wives. In the absence of the president. Archbishop Aver ill, the guests were welcomed bv Canon R. G. Coats, chairman of the committee, who referred to Mr. and Mrs. Boucher as two kinsfolk closely linked with New Zealand. Mr. Boucher thanked the members for the welcome extended to himself and Mrs. Boucher. An address was given by Mr. Matthew Cowley, who traced the early association of England and the United States in vital periods. Brief talks wen? also given by Mr. W. F. Bull, Canadian Trade Commissioner, and by Mr. B. li. Perry, honorary treasurer of the union. Ail enjoyable programme was contributed to by Mrs, S. Coutts. Miss .Jacqueline Page and Mr. Stewart Harvey. Airs. R. Heed played the accompaniments.
