CANVASSER'S OFFENCE
TERM OF IMPRISONMENT "Accused lias a habit of putting tales of this nature about among business people and in hotels, and they are usually cases on the borderline of needing criminal proceedings," said DetectiveSergeant Nalder, when James Leonard Thurlow", aged 27, canvasser, was charged before Mr. J. Morling, S.M., yesterday, with the theft of £4 10s. The charge was admitted. Mr. Nalder said accused got the money from a shop assistant, stating he could obtain some American cigarettes. Accused had many convictions for false pretences and theft. Accused was sentenced to three months' imprisonment.
