A National Savings Account can be opened at any Post Office or Trustee Savings Bank by completing the necessary form and depositing as small a sum as one shilling or a larger amount in multiples of one shilling. You will be issued with a National Savings Account Pass-book, in which each deposit will be entered just as it is in an ordinary Savings Bank-book. A Savings Group at your place of business would provide a convenient means of depositing to your own National Savings Account. You may consider that the amount you are able to save will be small, but every shilling helps—in fact, if everybody in New Zealand deposited only one shilling each week, over four million pounds would be saved each year and made available to provide the sinews of victory. IT PAYS TO SAVE When your savings add up to £l, interest will accrue from the first of the following month. It will go on month by month in your favour and will be credited to your account after the 30th June each year, after which interest may be withdrawn if required at any time within six months. If not withdrawn, it will increase your balance and become part of the sum earning interest. The principal difference between the National Savings Account and the ordinary Savings Account is that the money from the former WILL BE DEFINITELY USED FOR WAR PURPOSES AND WAR PURPOSES ONLY and that the money deposited will be repaid on the 30th June, 1945, or earlier at the discretion of the Minister of Finance in case of hardship, emergency, or special circumstances. New Zealand's poor showing is nothing to be proud of. We're letting down our men overseas if we don't save £15,000 per week in the Auckland metropolitan area. Only one-third of the total salary and wageearners of Auckland have opened National Savings Accounts. This means that TWO-THIRDS OF THE SALARY AND WAGE-EARNERS ARE ONLY HOPING FOR VICTORY!
