THE HOME GUARD
Sir, —Will you please allow mo spaco to add another protest on the treatment still being meted out to the Home Guard. Recently we were told by the acting-Prime Minister how wo were to be equipped, that we were to be taken over by the military, and given a recognised part in the defence of this country. I can assure your readers wo were highly pleased, especially as we have existed for so many months on unfulfilled promises. Wo had a visit from the area adjutant arid instructors last Saturday. Part of the instruction was to teach my company "how to surrender." My officers, who had to listen to this, are highly indignant, and rightly so. I teach a very different aspect and object to this pacifist insl ruction. The Home Guard will shortly be a year old. 1 consider it time that the Minister of Defence made a statement and a final one. and saw that it is put into operation. We of the Home Guard regard it as a privilege to give our time and in many cases money to assist in this light for freedom J. T. Hicck, Waitakere. Company Commander.
