OBITUARY
MR. C. C. BAKER The death has occurred at his residence, 15 Pencarrow Avenue, Mount Eden, of Mr. Charles Coornbe Baker, for many years a well-known public accountant in Auckland. Mr. Baker, who was aged 76, was born at Rocky Nook, where his father, Mr. William Baker, owned much property in the district enclosed by the Great North Road and Dominion Road. He was married in 1890 to Miss Eleanor Blade*, daughter of Mr. Frederick Blades, at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Mr. Baker entered business in 1881 at the apje of 16 as a partner in the firm of Ewington and Baker. Mr. F. G. Ewington, who had had his own business since 1866, died during the Great War. After the war Mr. Baker was joined by Mr. L. W. Swan, the firm of Baker and Swan being formed. Mr. Baker, whose wife died 15 years ago, is survived by two daughters. MR. H. W. ATKINSON Actively associated with gasworks engineering and management in New Zealand for about 60 years, Mr. Henry William Atkinson, of 13 Alexis Avenue, Mount Albert, has died at the age of 73. Mr. Atkinson was born in Auckland and was educated at the Auckland Grammar School. When 13 years old he began work under his father at the Auckland Gas Company, and later was a partner in H. Atkinson and Sons. This company erected gasworks at Hamilton, Northcote, Whangarei, Thames, Paeroa, Hawera, Eltham and Balclutba. He is survived by his wife and one daughter.
