WOMAN MOTORIST FINED
CHARGE OF INTOXICATION A tailoress, Daphne Margaret Webber. aged 27 (Mr. Aekins). admitted a charge of driving a ear in Karangahape Road while intoxicated, when she appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., yesterday. A sergeant and a constable in Karangaliape Road saw a motor-car being driven on the wrong side of the road at one o'clock yesterday morning, said Senior-Sergeant -Joyce. When it* neared them thi' engine stalled, and accused was found in the driver's seat in an advanced state of intoxication. A doctor who examined her said she was drunk. ('oun.-el submitted that there was no accident, and it, was not a bad case. Accused was on holiday in Auckland, but had been working as a tailoress. It was her first offence. A fine of £25 was imposed, 14 days being allowed for payment. "It is their only punishment really, and I would print the name in block capitals if I had my way," said the magistrate in declining a request for suppression of accused's name. The licence was cancelled for 12 months.
