BLACKOUT BREACHES
ONEHUNGA MAN FINED Pleading guilty to three charges of breaches of the Lighting Restriction Regulations, a cardboard box manufacturer, Harry Baker, was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £6 16s by Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., in the Onehunga Police Court yesterday. Senior-Sergeant M. J. Angland stated that, following complaints by the deputy chief warden of the borough, he and a constable had on two occasions observed both the factory and defendant's residence fullv lighted. Although the windows of the factory had been whitewashed, without proper | covering on the windows the light would be visible for miles, and although the factory was hidden from the Manukau harbour a distinct sky glow was visible. Defendant, in evidence, said he was not fully aware of the position, but admitted that he bad been warned. . ' The Magistrate: The wardens' duties are not particularly pleasing, but as your factory was going "full steam you apparently did not seem to care. Mr. L evien also pointed out that there was no necessity for wardens to warn an occupier. Senior-Sergeant Angland said that this was the first prosecution in Onehunga and that defendant had notf complied with the regulations.
