TENNIS SEASON OPENS

CEREMONY AT MOUNT EDEN In uncertain weather which improved during the afternoon, the Mount Eden Tennis •Club opened its 1941-12 summer season, on Saturday. The club is the first to commence the new season's activities. The season was declared open by the patron, Mr. A. C. Johns, and the lady club captain, Mrs. >L. F. Rowe, served the first ball. In addition to the president, Mr. W. S. Burns, and Mr. Johns, the speakers included the Mayor of Mount Eden. Mr. R. J. Mills, the president of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, Mr. S. Cleal, and Mr. A. T. Dow. Speakers stressed the wholehearted way in which the young men of the club had joined the armed forces. A progressive tournament was won by Mr. 0. R. Arkle, in the men's section, and by Miss L. McCracken in the ladies' section.
