CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES SUCCESS FOR UNIVERSITY
A good standard of play was seen at Hobson Park on Saturday when a further round of tlifi senior championship was decided. University showed decided superiority over Mount Eden and won by •"> goals to 2. Grammar Old Boys had a close call in the match against United, winning by the odd goal in seven. The Training College combination triumphed in the second half against Albertians and gained a —J victory. Reminiscent of former days, when they fiercely contested the premiership, was the strenuous match between Somerville arid St. Luke's. The former team, although depleted in numbers, secured a draw of I goals all by powerful attacks in the closing stages.
University v. Mount Eden.—University dominated the first half, but a strong defence maintained its goal intact until R. G. Coldham, right wing, accepted a pass near the twenty-five-yard line, outstripped the defence and goaled from an acute angle. Shortly afterward CoJdham again broke through, drew the defence, and centred for H. Cooper to score from close in. Early in the second spell Coldham secured his second goal when he snapped up a pass from B. Broun and netted from a very difficult angle. Mount Eden took up the attack, Jind J. Turner goaled from an ineffective clearance. B. Broun added University's fourth Koal when he flicked the ball through the defenders into the net, and Cooper secured a fifth from a pass from Coldham. Five minutes before time T. Turner netted for Mount Eden from a rebound off the goalie's pads. United v. Grammar Old Boys.—-Although short, United was the first to score when J. Horspool eluded the Grammar fullback, drew tlie goalkeeper and netted. Grammar then assumed the offensive, and M. Lars en beat three opponents and centred for 11. Lawry to even the score with a high reversS shot. Almost from the ensuing bully H. Lawry goaled after a great solo run. A penalty bully against the Grammar goalie was converted by B. Fulton, making- the half-tune score 2-alI. Upon resumption a combined attack bv the Grammar forwards was finished off by S. Luvk, who shortly afterward scored again after taking the ball through on his own. Just before time J. Horspool made a fifty yards' run, drew the goalie and scored United's third goal. Training College v. Albertians.—Albertians had the better of the first half, but lack of finfsse prevented the team from sroring. After the interval Training College showed better combination, and exciting moments in the Albertians' circle ended in K. Bayne snapping: up a chance to score. W. Turner evened for Albertians almost immediately with a stinging shot from the circle edge. For the remainder of the game Training College held the upper hand, and goals were added by Is. Giles, who went through from the twenty-five-yard line to net from close in, and K. Bogue who secured his second goal from a rebound. Somerville v. St. Luke's.—St. Luke's dominated the first half to gain a 2 —o lead. M. McQuarrie followed in a good shot to goal from the rebound, and J. Carroll penetrated the defence, drew the backs, and netted with a crisp shot. Somerville opened its score within five minutes of recommencing when A. Anderson shot hard from a penalty corner. St. Luke's attacked. R. Brodie scoring from well out. Somerville then forced a penalty corner, from which L. Wyatt coaled. St. Luke's retaliated, and B. Richardson netted from a melee following a penalty corner. Two goals down and short-handed, Somerville pressed hard, and A. Anderson finished off a combined movement. A train Somerville attacked. and B. Archibald stepped in and evened the score from the circle edge.
MATCHES IN PROVINCE Hamilton. —The Hamilton ladies' junior representative team defeated "Rotorua in a game played at Steele Park by 3 goals to 2.
