RACES AT AVONDALE

WET WEATHER FASHIONS Mackintoshes, small close-fitting hats and rubber boots were the order of the day at Avondale on Saturday among those women who attended the first day of the Avondale .Jockey Club's spring meeting. The weather cleared somewhat in the afternoon, however, and mackintoshes were discarded to reveal smartly cut suits in tweed, flannel or worsted. Jt was not a day for bright colours and the effect was rather sombre, brown, navy and black being tho predominant shades chosen. Sprays of natural flowers worn on the lapel of a suit, and brightly coloured scarves, however, did their best to brighten the effect. Waist-length fur capes were a popular adjunct to suits and there were some very handsome examples to bo seen, while fur-edged caps in the Russian style and corded silk or felt turbans were the popular choice in hats.
