NO LEATHER FOR SHOES
NEW CALEDONIA SHORTAGES (0.C.) NOUMEA, Sept. 12 At the present time there is such a scarcity of leather in Now Caledonia that shoes cannot he soled. The head of the Colony's Economic Department, M. Puaux, complains that Australia, which gives the country a good price for all the hides that are exported, is refusing to supply leather and such necessities as caustic soda and newsprint, although the quantities needed are not large.
