CAMPBELL ROSE BOWL NO VISIT BY WELLINGTON The control board of the Auckland Football Association decided last evening to abandon the proposed Frank Campbell Rose Bow! game against Wellington set down for decision at Bland ford Park on September 0. The calling up of players for army service, the need to finalise the local competitions and the possible financial loss which the present, unsettled conditions foreshadowed, Auckland having to bear the whole expense, were among tlie factors mentioned by the chairman, Mr. F. 11. Baker, in regard to the abandonment. , In connection with a proposed visit to South Auckland by a junior tram, the Waikato association wrote stating that, owing to the need for playing its competition* to a finish, it was unable to accept such a visit. The high standard of play witnessed in the North Island secondary schools' tourney, which commenced at Victoria Park yesterday, was referred to by the chairman, who intimated thai the filial of tile senior division for the Skcrrelt Cup would be played, at Blandford Park on Saturday between Auckland and llawke's Bay. The supplying of flags to club linesmen on outside grounds was the subject of a report from the referees' association. This stated that nt times difficulty was experienced in distinguishing the linesmen from spectators. It was agreed to forward the suggestion to the senior division committee with a styong recommendation that clubs supply their linesmen with distinctive flags. The judicial committee's report on the recent Onehunga v. Metro-College match was confirmed, this stating that A. Blocklfy and If. SECONDARY SCHOOLS' GAMES The annual North Island secondary schools' Soccer tournament was commenced at Victoria Park yesterday, when two games were played in the morning and two in the afternoon. The weather was showery and the grounds heavy, but some good exhibitions were witnessed, the Auckland and llawke's Bay teams being outstanding.
