LONDONERS' PLUCK
VISITOR QUOTES INSTANCES (0.c.) HAMILTON, Thursday Instances of the pluck, independence and generosity of Londoners during the air '"blitz" last year were quoted by Mr. \V. Goodfellow, managing director of Amalgamated Dairies. Limited, when addressing the annual meeting of the Xew Zealand Co-opera-tive Dairy Company, Limited, to-day. Mr. Goodfellow said a girl employed in a London office had her home destroyed and both parents killed one night, but she reported for duty as usual next day. Her fellow-employees took up a collection and furnished her with a new outfit of clothing. Three of the company's managers had had their homes damaged, and were offered free loans by the company in order to effect repairs. The offer was declined, the managers stating that they would manage. The Government was not offering compensation for damaged buildings until after the war, .said Mr. Goodfellow. One firm had its offices smashed in a raid. A competitor offered the firm the free use of another suite of offices.
Mr. Goodfellow said the majority of the office staffs were not now rushing the air-raid shelters during a raid, but were carrying on and taking their chances of being hit. The morale of the English people was wonderful.
