GALLAHER SHIELD ARMY TO PLAY MANUKAU JUBILEE TROPHY CHALLENGES Mr. A. A. Baker presided over the weekly meeting of the management committee of the Auckland Rugby Union last evening when the Army and Manukau teams were declared the winners of the A and B sections respectively of tho senior first division competition. These two teams will meet 011 Saturday week in a match for tho Gallagher Shield. The Garrison Artillery team was declared the winners of the second division and of tho Pollard Cup. The competiiton for the Maben Cup, between Garrison Artillery, and the Hobsonville and Whcnuapai Air Bases will commence on Saturday next. All invitation is to be extended to the Navy to participate in this competition. Challenges are to be invited from senior clubs to play for the Jubileo Trophy on September 13. It was resolved to close the season on September 27 with matches between Auckland and the Combined Services and Auckland Colts and Thames. The Watlii Union wrote expressing anpreciation of tho Tecent visit- of the Otahuhu team to Waihi. , . The New Zealand Rugby Lmon notified the reinstatement of L. C. Sanders. The Takapuna club was granted permission to visit Pukekohe on Saturday next with a combined, senior team, Mr. A. J. Jensen being approved as manager, lho Suburbs club was granted permission to visit Helensville on Saturday next, subject to a suitable manager being appointed. The Grafton club was granted permission to visit VVaiuku, also on Saturday, under the charge of Mr. R. Bridgens. . . , , , , , The Thames Union is to bo requested to appoint the referee for the Auckland Colts versus Thames match on Saturday next. The following ground officials were appointed for Saturday :—Eden Park, Messrs. R. Harrop, J. Lethbridge, J. Sweeney. It was reported that, in connection with the annual Roller Mills Shield competition for primary schools to commence next Luesday a mayoral reception will take place at the Town Hall on Tuesday morning. it was resolved to hold the annual Rugby dance at the Peter Pan Cabaret ou Wednesday, September 2i. THIRD GRADE PLAYERS In viw of the match 011 Saturday week against tho Auckland secondary schools fitteen, players chosen to practice for the tuiru grade representatives will take part in a Possibles v. Probables game at v\ alker i ark on Saturday afternoon. INTER-SCHOOLS' CONTEST The annual Rugby match between the first fifteens of the Seddon Memorial Technical College and Stratford Boys High School was played at tho Domain yesterday afternoon and resulted in a win for the visiting team by 15 points to 11. The ground was heavy and showers of rain made the baU difficult to handle. Nevertheless, the. Stratford backs gave a splendid, display—in fact their accurate passing and handling perhaps (he best feature of the contest. Tries for Stratford were scored by C. Gordge K. Gibbons, S. Gibbons and L. Drake, while J. Pope kicked a penalty goal. J. McCullough scored for Technical, \V. Rowe converting and kicking two penalty goals. The visitors, who arrived on Tuesday morning, and who are being billeted, were entertained at a dance and social at tho college last evening. They will be taken for a drive to-day and will leave for home this evening.
