SIX ARRESTS
TAHITI OFFICIALS THE GOVERNOR INCLUDED ACTION BY FREE FRENCH Six high Government officials, including the Governor, have been arrested in Tahiti, French possession about 1800 miles west of Fiji, states the Noumea correspondent of the Sydney Sundsy Telegraph. The Free French envoy to the Pacific, M. Brunot, ordered the arrests soon after he reached Tahiti. The reason for the arrests is not revealed, but a statement just released says they were made "following certain incidents."
Those arrested are: —M. do Curtin, Governor of Tahiti; M. de Lage, his aide; M. Senac and M. Lemmonier, colonial administrators; Captain Ravel, commander of Tahiti's troops; and Captain Fatoux, M. Brunot's own aide. M. Brunot is acting as Governor of Tahiti.
Captain Fatoux visited New Zealand as M. Brunot's aide-de-camp and interpreter in April last. His duties included that of financial and economic adviser, this position being due to his business experience before the war. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre for destroying a bridge over the Loire during the Battle of France.
