DAVIS CUP SERIES DEFEAT OF GRAMMAR TEAM UNIVERSITY PLAYS A DRAW The. Auckland Hockey Association's Davis Cup competition was resumed at Hobson Park on Saturday afternoon. University now has a lead of two points on tho championship ladder from Training: College and Grammar Old Boys. University B having withdrawn from the competition, there are now two Papakura Camp sides in the competition to play tho odd teams. Results were:—University, 3, Training College. 3; Mount Eden 2, Grammar Old Boys, 1; Somerville, 1; Albcrtians, 1; United, <l. Papakura Camp A, 2.
University v. Training College.—Taking the offensive early in the game, Training College was unlucky not to win. University seemed una bio to produce the same cohesion among its forwards as in former engagements. In tho first, spell University took the honours territorially, but tho initiative was with Training College. At half-time the scores were even at 2-all. In tho second spell it was Training College which made the play, although University led for a great part of the time by one goal. The Training College forward lino showed understanding, and Bogue, inside-right, and Bedggood, centre, combined well on attack. J. Elliott, left wing, was very fast, although a little over-eager. Moorhcad played a sound defensive gamo at left-half. Tho rearguard was steady. Cooper stood out in the University vanguard. Watson was splendid at left-half. Scorers for University vvero Broun (2) and Cooper. Bogue, Bedggood and P. Elliott scored for Training College. Messrs. E. Michel and C. Shorman were umpires.
Grammar Old Boys v. Mount Eden.—Grammar did most of the attacking, but the solid defence of the fullbacks, Hughes in particular, could not bo pierced. Mount Eden's forwards were not slow to take advantage of the fact that Grammar was without one fullback. In one quick burst in tho second half Mount E'len took the lead, warding off all further offensives. The half-time score was 1 -all. Scorers for Mount Eden were Nairn and J. Turner, while H. La wry scored Grammar's goal. Messrs. G. Wells and P. Craig were the umpires. Albertians v. Somerville,— I This was an evenly-contested game and fortunes fluctuated throughout,. Albertians, an improving team, had tho better of tho exchanges after the interval, but did not take the fullest advantage of them. Turner was prominent at centrehalf for Albertians. Somerville's defence was particularly strong and R. Marshall was always safe in goal. The half-time score was I -all. Turner scored for Albertians and Anderson for Somerville. Messrs. N. Giles and R. Bedggood were the umpires. United v. Papakura Camp A.—Papakura did most of tho attacking early, but United checked most movements. In the closing stages United made most, of the play. Tho Camp team spoiled its play through too much undercutting. Horspoof, on the wing for United, was prominent. At half-time the score was.- Papakura Camp A. 3; United, 1. Scorers for United were Herriott (2), Clarke and Horspool. 'Mullen and Stewart scored for Papakura Camp. Messrs. W. Jones and L. Robinson wore the umpires.
