OTAHUHU DRIVE
FUN ON THE HIGHWAY A novel method of raising patriotic funds was adopted by the Otahuhu Borough Council and the Otahuhu committee of the Fighting Forces Fund on Saturday. The council closed a section of the highway to vehicular traffic and a two hours' programme commenced with a parade or decorated trolleys and prams. The .Mayor, Mr. C. I?. Petrie, M.P.. and other prominent citizens entered into the spirit of the occasion and appeared in raiment far removed from the decorum of their eustomarv garb. Novelty races on scooters ami trollies and an exhibition of roller-skating entertained a largo crowd who responded readily to the expedients adopted to augment the funds. It is anticipated that the funds raisod in the borough, which has a population of just over 6000, will bo i j about £ISOO.
