WAITEMATA SEAT

INCREASED MAJORITY three deposits forfeited An increased majority for Mrs. M. M. Dreaver, the official Labour candidate at the Waitemata by-election held last Saturday, is shown in the official count of the votes, which was completed yesterday. At the provisional count she had a majority of 420 and this was increased to 512.

The final figures, including the soldiers' votes, are: —Mrs. M. M. Dreaver (Government), 4396; W. B. Darlow (Independent), 3884; N. V. Douglas (Democratic Labour), 940; P. R. Gardner (Independent), 414; H. T. Head (Pan-New Zealand), 88. There were 72 informal votes. Of the 200 declaration votes 22 were allowed, and 144 absentee votes were allowed out of 167 received. Three candidates, Messrs. Douglas, Gardner and Head, will forfeit their deposits of £lO, as each failed to poll one-fourth of the successful candidate's total.
