FERTILISER CONTROL
COMMITTEE APPLICATIONS Further explanation of the operation of the Phosphatic Fertiliser Control Regulations was made by the Department of Agriculture yesterday. It Was explained that the closing date of August 15 refers only to those applic- ■ a Hons made to fertiliser committees by farmers who have been unable to fill in the application forms supplied by vendors because for the past few years they have not received fertiliser. Information -about, the fertiliser committees can be obtained from any office of the Department of Agriculture. Information was also given Of the quantities of phosphatic fertiliser which can be obtained from vendors for crops. Applications for these aro made direct to the vendors and are not sent to the fertiliser committees. The quantities per acre are:—New grass after a crop, but not after grass, lV=cwt; cereals, lcwlj peas and beans, lewt; linen flax, 2cwt; turnips and swedes on the flat, lewt; on tho ridge, l'/,cwti rape and kale. . lewt; mangels and chou moellier, iewt; potatoes, maize and carrots. 3cwt; tobacco, scwt; orchards, 2 1 /acwt: market garden crops, including onions, lOc.wt; hops, 4cwt. All these quantities aro for super or straight phosphates. If a farmer wishes to use one of the more common standard mixed fertilisers, he will be entitled to a quantity in keeping with the amount of straight phosphate in tho mixture. Thus, on the basis of one ton of super ho will be entitled to any of the following:—! ton 4ewt of basic super or reverted superj 1 ton Tcwt of serpentine super; 2 tons Sewt of Heskett slag; 1 ton lOcwt of ammoniated super; 1 ton scwt of potassic basic super; 1 ton lewt of potassic super; and 2 tons'of a mixture of equal parts of lime and super. The members of the Auckland Fertiliser Committee are:-—Messrs. E. B. Glanville (Agriculture Department, chairman). H. 0. Mellsop (farmers' representative), and H. S.
