FRUITGROWERS CONFER

MAINTAINING PRODUCTION A tribute to the Government for the help it had given fruitgrowers, particularly during the past two years, was paid by Mr. T, C. Brash, president of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers' Federation, at the. annual conference of the Auckland branch of the federation yesterday. He urged all growers to ; do their utmost to assist the Government in making the marketing organisation a success, and emphasised the necessity for all producers to maintain the productive capacity of the land in the country's interests. Many problems faced all primary producers during the war period, MrBrash said, but an obligation was laid upon food-producing countries, such as New Zealand, to produce all the food possible, in spite of difficulties in finding markets. Eventually it would all be needed. Referring to the action taken by the Government to popularise apple juice, Mr. Brash said the establishment of further production units for next season were under discussion. It had been proved that there was a mai'ket for a much greater quantity. Many remits were discussed and the views of the conference will be conveyed to the annual conference of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers' Federation, Limited, to be held in Wellington on .August 6 . and 7. The Auckland delegates to the conference will be Messrs. H. J. Masson, R. Bccroft and C. 0. Shuttleworth. . The election of four members for the advisory board resulted in the return of Messrs. 11. .T. Masson, F. Firth, H. L. Becroft and C. H. Seo.tt.
