HE FOUND A CROCK OF GOLD
A s a reward for the crock of gold which he dug up in his front garden just over a year ago, Mr. Harry Alfred Baker, of Chantry Cottages, Bredgar, Kent, has received from the authorities a cheque for £65. Mr. Baker is a tractor driver employed by the Kent Harm Institute at Grove End Farm, Tunstall. When he dug up the earthen wane crock a shower of gold coins fell at his feet. They were 120 coins, including 9'S nobles. 24 half-nobles, and three quarter nobles of the reign of Edward 111. The liml was reported to the coroner, Mr. T. B. Bishop, and at the inquest he decided that the coitus were treasure trove and therefore the property of the
Crown, and intimated that Mr. Bakci) would be rewarded later. The reward is in respect of a mira» ber of coins which have been retained for various museums. Other coins have been returned to Mr. Baker, who gave one of ihe 'Old nobles to the local War Weapons Fi id.
