KINAWLEY MAKES PROGRESS

DOLORES SILK DOES WELL

BY ABAYDOS

Novice pacers and trotters in Auckland were well catered for during the season, no fewer than -I'J winning. The total was made up of 33 pacers and nine trotters. With the exception of I'earloro, Neutrality, War Guard, Fly Across and Koesian, all won their first start at meetings in the province.

The su.ee-.- fii I pacers were Katoomba, Davey Day, Now Then, Parrish Lad, Parrish Queen, Magic Task, Milaya, Kinawley, Scotty Direct, franco, Peter's Find, Maratua, Village Maid, Sparkling Pointer, Cloverdale, Langdale, Durato, Ayrshire Scott, Barbara Scott, Bingen Fashion, Village Lass, Nawt"n Junior, Moko Direct, Cynic, Torpedo King, Cam Derby, Sir Echo and Symphony. I'earloro and War Guard won at- New Plymouth, Neutrality at Hntt Park, Fly Across at Awapuni and Koesian at Nelson. War Guard also won at llawera, and Neutrality extended his record by scoring at Awapuni and Epsom. Davey Day Consistent

In addition to Neutrality, Davey Day, franco, -Cloverdale, Peter's Find, Maratua and Cynic completed the season with three wins. 'l'hose to win twice included Nawton .Junior, Parrish Lad, Langdale and Barbara Scot. The best record was that of Kinawley, who won at four consecutive starts, two of her successes being at two miles. She demonsi rated both speed and stamina, registering ■I .'ll '2-5 off 4..if} to win the Parnell Handicap at Epsom

Neutrality revealed good staying power when he won (lie Fninklin Handicap at Fpsom in 1 ._>!> 3-5 off -1.17, Davcy Day, on Mir same mark being second in 1.30 1-5. Davcy Day for third at Hamilton ran t.:tl 3-s', and won the Hobson Handicap at Mpswn i;i-ii month in 1.31. The consistent form of Davcy Day at two miles, and the manner in which Neutrality scored, suggests that lint h should lie prominent in country handicaps next season. Two very smart performances by novices at Alexandra Park were credited to Parrish Lad. who won the sprond division of Hip Waiheke Handicap in February, and Moko Direct, winner of the second division of the Devonport Handicap in April, both registering 'j.-IS off :i.r>. At Thames Mnratim made the same time to win the iHikutaia Handicap off 3.3. Nawton Junior was responsible for a good effort when off '2.58 bo ran second to True (inide. in the April Handicap, uoing 2.15 Classic Winners Symphony, winner of the Great Northern Trotting Stakes for two-year-olds in '2.17. established a record for the race. It was her only start, but she impressed as likely to develop into a good three-year-old, as did Free Machine, who ran the winner to a head. After winning the Karaka Handicap at Thames in October off 3.5 in 2.50. Peter's Find went (o New Brighton to win the Challenge Stakes, following with a third to Hold Chief nnd Shadow Maid in the New Zealand Derby Stakes at Addington. Heturning home Peter's Find won 1 lie Oreat Northern Derby. Sir Hcho and Langdale were giving away time when they scored, the former winning the Mount Albert- Handicap, limit 3.3 H. at Epsom, when assessed on 3.12. Sir Echo ran a sol':' race for third to Neutrality and Davy Day in the Franklin Handicap, registering 1.32 3-5. Langdnlc failed at Thames In the JTikntaia Maiden, but won tho Kerepeehi Handicap, off .'{.-10, when his assessed work was 3.13. It. was very costly as Langdale was reassessed to 3.35, from which mark he won the Tamahere Handicap at Hamilton. The .form of Cynic, who won shortly after arriving from the south, was good and, although she failed in two atempts at two miles, her prospects next season appear bright. Unhoppled Horses

Tho successful trotters wore Dolores Silk, Wiri Billion, Getaway, tiara Avis, Buncrana, Hatiirc Finder, Golden Journey, Tenacity and Silver Countess. Dolores Silk made most progress, winning three races later. He tins developed into a very solid trotter and may reach a high standard. \ not her to make advancement was Silver Countess, who finished the season with three wins. Although her form at the Waiknto and Auckland winter meetings was not up to her previous standard, Silver Countess should prove equal to extending her record. Ran are Finder did not materialise as quickly as irs early private reputation indicated, nut after Raining experience he made cood (it Kp.-orn last, month. T?ara Avis, previously placed on three occasions, won at tho saino meeting. These trotters, and Tenacity, who scored at Thames, should pay their way in the new season. Getaway, Wiri Binpren and Golden Journey look'some time to lose their novice status and could riot win again after bcintf penalised. Buncrana. after her success in December, was four times placed.
