SINGER'S LIFE
'JOHN McCOKMACK'S story is told in a lively fashion by Mr. L. A.;. G. Strong, who claims that the book is really a collaboration, ■which means that not only are there liberal quotations of the singer's own words, but that the book is intended to convey the character of the man as he sees himself. In this it seems singularly successful. Those renders who. being themselves outside artistic circles, like to know about the relations of great singers with one another, to listen to their conversations, follow them on their travels round the world, and witness the little contretemps which break the monotony of their triumphs, will find plenty here with which to regale their taste and satisfy their curiosity. They will not find any scandals to be either hushed up or exposed; but they will get a pleasant picture of a simple and impulsive nature, of one endowed with a golden voice and an instinctive artistry untrammelled by imy intellectual distinctions between good music and bad, and therefore a Ginger able to reach the hearts of unsophisticated audiences all over the world. "John McCormiick: The Story of a Sinner," fey L. A G. Strong. (Mcthurn.)
